Research Scientist

We seek an early career molecular biologist and/or entomologist to provide support to both our insect rearing needs and of our effectiveness of utilizing CRISPR technology for the sterilization of insects.  The successful candidate will work within the R&D team and contribute actively and intellectually to the completion of our company goals.  The candidate will be a detail-oriented research scientist with molecular biology or entomology experience with a willingness to learn new skills.  The Research Scientist will work with other scientists in a collaborative and cross-functional atmosphere.  Responsibilities include:  Rear, maintain, and classify insects for internal and external research experiments. Identify and sex sort insects utilizing vision system with algorithms to clearly define presence or absence of gene-editing proteins. Determine capability of using AI vision system for determination of colony health. Establish utilization of vision system to perform quality control analysis of appropriate classification of production insects. Establish a preventative maintenance and calibration program of the vision system. Participate in and complete supervised experiments and report results in lab meetings. Additional normal daily activities may include the following: maintaining equipment and lab inventory; word/excel data entry.
