The Grand Island Independent is seeking an Education Reporter to cover local K-12 schools. Local education is important to our readers, and this wide-ranging beat includes breaking news, school board coverage, enterprise, investigative and accountability journalism. You will report on topics such as academic performance, funding and financial management, student and teacher features, and staff personnel issues. We are seeking someone with the ability to report stories for print, digital and online publications to inform and grow our readership. This is position is expected to produce several stories a week in addition to enterprise reporting. Grand Island is a growing community of approximately 50,000 and just a few hours from Lincoln and Omaha.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field in addition to experience through internships or on the job. As a digital-first newsroom, the ability to identify and report issues that are most important to our readers and experience with social media and mobile reporting skills is a must. New graduates with internship experience are welcome to apply.
