Job Summary:
We are seeking to hire a Research Study Assistant to support two research projects. One is the Intervention to Reduce Early Peanut Allergy in Children (IREACH) Study, an NIH-funded multi-year, multi-site study wherein we partner with multiple clinics in Illinois to implement a clinical decision support tool in clinicians electronic health records to assist them in determining best practices surrounding early peanut introduction. Overall, the iREACH study aims to (1) improve clinician adherence to early introduction of peanut guidelines, and (2) decrease the incidence of peanut allergy in children.
The other study is the Childhood Activities Nutrition and Development Oversight (CAN DO) study, a randomized control trial which aims to explore early infant introduction of peanut and other common food allergens (egg, wheat, cashew, and walnut) in the US and the impact of early introduction on food allergy development between ages 1-3. Over 1,500 infants will be enrolled from diverse pediatric practices in Chicago.
The successful candidate will join a mission-driven, collaborative research team within a dynamic research environment. This position will support the Center for Food Allergy & Asthma Research (CFAAR), directed by Dr. Ruchi Gupta. As a center with a presence in the both the Institute for Public Health and Medicine (IPHAM) and Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (NUCATS), CFAAR provides community and stakeholder engagement infrastructure across the research spectrum.
Specific Responsibilities:
Technical
- Recruits study participants.
- Reviews & obtains informed consent.
- Schedules study visits with participants.
- Conducts interviews.
- Collects survey data.
- Reviews medical records.
- Consults with nurses & physicians to determine pretreatment & eligibility requirements of protocol from completion to registration of participants.
- Facilitates communication with key personnel & participants to maintain project study flow.
- Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting & entering data; &/or preparing basic charts & graphs.
- Performs scientific literature searches in support of research.
- May process reimbursements for travel expenses.
- May train other research staff to interview/test participants.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
- Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
