Grant Writer, Healthy Home Laboratory



The Pitt Healthy Home Lab, HHL, is a community-based laboratory that brings expertise from across the University to develop solutions for older adults to successfully age in place. We conduct research, design products, and develop technology-enabled services to help older adults to live independently, and serve as a testbed for the AARP AgeTech Collaborative. To accelerate the commercialization of technology-enabled services, the HHL partners with small businesses interested in pursuing Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants to support collaborative projects.

The candidate will lead writing multi-investigator and multi-organization grants to develop and commercialize technology-focused interventions, and be supported by a multi-disciplinary team of technical experts. Grant writing will be focused on the SBIR and STTR Programs at NIH but may include SBIRs and STTRs from other agencies (e.g. CDC, NIDILRR, NSF) or foundations with similar technology-development programs. Experience with grant writing for the SBIR and STTR programs or similar programs is required. Subject matter expertise in older adult physical and behavioral health as well as in-home supports and services is desired but not required.


Job Summary

Assists, in conjunction with multi-disciplinary teams, with writing large, multi-investigator grant proposals and other manuscripts, as well as editing scientific reports, assisting with website copy, providing writing/editing support for book chapters, editing reports by internal and external stakeholders, and developing ad hoc requested materials. Implements critical scientific research editing to documents and maintains compliance with all guidelines and regulations.


Essential Functions

Ability to work at the computer for extended periods of time; using office machines; and reviewing grant/funding documents.


Physical Effort

Ability to sit at desk for significant amounts of time.
